How would you solve the issue of VHS camcorders being too big and bulky? How about keeping the tape size but putting less of it into a smaller cassette!
Welcome to VHS-C. The "C" is for "Compact"
Yep, to all intents and purposes, VHS-C is exactly the same as its big brother but just in a smaller package. This allowed companies to make smaller and less hernia-inducing camcorders whilst allowing people to play their footage on the VHS player they probably already had in their living room. All you needed was an adaptor into which you loaded your VHS-C cassette and the tape was physically pulled out by some rollers to fit what your player expected.
Quite ingenious really.
Recording Time
Tape length is necessarily limited given the cassette size, so most run to around 30-45 minutes, although there are exceptions. Like its big brother you could turn on LP mode allowing 1-1.5 hours on a cassette, but that's actually surprisingly rare: most are SP (Standard Play).
